Welcome to Salt Spring Mentoring

This workshop which is fully asynchronous style, same as I work.  My belief is that we may all do this, and may all evolve our own networks.  I don't have a 'must do' approach. I'm a Producer-Writer so, I have learned from the true teacher, the crew who creates the project.  Get the right story for you & it all starts with the story - your story.

And in meetings & in the context of the writing-river where we all learn to swim.  As I return more and more to producing, I realize that, in this age, we're all of us  working professionally in asynchronous fashi.  When we get into production - that's where we'll talk about the actual doing of this.  We may, as a group, accomplish anything we dream of.  This site is also for those who wish to start writing; for those with a work-in-progress, or for writers who feel blocked in their current work.

I work in Sonic Movies & Film Movies, as well as TV. I started in pure Sonics, and documentary-News, many entertainment forms & believe that we learn by doing. I explore all approachesss in this manner.  Here's a free-interconnecting site that begins the conversation about format & the evolution of form.

One on one. No group notes.

Besides, I've been doing this work a long time & am now bringing all my own work into one geodesic dome of interconnected stories that I've been inter-connecting since I was a teenager.  Chances are, so have you.

Our approach does not work from any over-riding theory.

Rather, the work itself is what teaches us.  We'll talk about this a good deal, and work with that idea, of finding inspiration through working with each other.  This is practical - dream about what you really wish to do, and how to be trained by what we hear and see and touch and learn.

This process evolved while we lived on Salt Spring - so I keep the name for this process.  The island itself taught me what I needed to know.   Some geographic areas (such as Newfoundland) are natural hubs for any wheel, Newfoundland is where I first learned how to write, produce, direct, & edit. The place itself, and the wealth of music, and delight and stories we all told each other... well, what luck.

My world taught me how and what to write. Here's a link to that world..

We'll focus on what you want to write. Just as you are, and with your own set of operating principles. The work is done in a series of exchanges where we focus on you and your writing and your desired directions.. There's a different approach for each writer & for each situation.

I learned by working with many crews of co-creators. Starting in CBC Radio in Gander, Newfoundland, I was taught by my co-workers, and by all staff at CBG. We learn from one another. Then to St. John's, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, as well as Boulder, Co - which is in my dreams always.  Boston in the States introduced me to my version of life, and I still dream of what I learned rambling, and doing Radio and Filmic pieces.. And nowadays San Diego & Taipei also inspire me.  No matter where I work, I see that we're all hyphenates & love to interlink everything,

Here's another free site to explore some of what we apply here to the concept of doing our own productions. It is now possible. As always, we adjust to the technology & that's when we break-through.

We're all born knowing how to tell our stories with images, dreams, odd moments.  There could be a full series idea in any story an old relative once told you.   You'll learn, as you progress, what works best for you. There are no marks, diplomas, or degree.  This is about doing - it isn't about being taught... "How To."  This is about what kind of multi-talented writer you become.  This is not so much about the transmission of knowledge - it's about the evocation of knowledge.

The object is for you to achieve the best that you can, using definitions drawn from the work itself.  You write & I respond to your writing.  Paper is not required. We follow an asynchronous-digital approach, in which we have text exchanges, exchange files, do voice calls & zoom calls.

We'll exchange information, run thought-experiments, & develop each work without talking it to death in the process.  All that falls into exactly the same considerations, and adjustment that actual Production requires.  Above all else, we avoid a quest for perfection.  Instead, we'll run this in online-asynchronous fashion, and I'll provide my free sites & evolving & mutating iterations of writing in various formats.

In brief, sometimes we'll zoom-yarn - but, mainly through Text-exchanges & pages & script, & ways of working with your story. Notes travel back & forth as required.

You know why you're here. The next page has even more about this, and what lies behind it, and where we'll examine what may be be done in such times.  You know a lot already - this is about how to take the next step for your dreams.
